The letter from the Evacuation

Representation Committee in No.6 was dealt with here in the absence of Mr. Gent. We did not know that Mr. Gent had received a confidential letter on the subject from Sir G. Northcote. This letter is now attached for you to see, and I agree with Mr. Gent that, in view of what Sir G. Northcote savs on the last page, our reply should be expanded.

We have held back the despatch which had been prepared (No.8) and, if you agree, I think a despatch in the form of the revised draft now submitted should be sent.
